A planning workshop was held at the Louhajang Upazila Parishad conference room on Thursday to increase public awareness about village courts. The event brought together local government officials and private organizations to draft a comprehensive outreach strategy.
The workshop was organized under the Bangladesh Village Court Activation (Phase III) Project. Implemented by the Local Government Division, the project is run by the Upazila Administration in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.
Louhajang Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Farzana Bobby Mitu attended as the chief guest.
The workshop, coordinated by Upazila Branch Coordinator Shila Akhter, saw active participation from several key local officials. Among them were Upazila LGED Engineer Md. Rezaul Islam, Agriculture Officer Md. Hasan-ud-Daula, Officer-in-Charge of Louhajang Police Station Md. Borhan Ul Islam, Social Service Officer Md. Ujjal Munshi, and Women's Affairs Officer Aradhana Karmakar.
Local media leaders also attended, including Bikrampur Press Club President Md. Masud Khan, Louhajang Upazila Press Club President Abu Naser Khan Limon, and Louhajang Press Club President Md. Shawkat Hossain, alongside various NGO workers and community representatives.
Speakers emphasized that village courts are a highly effective system for resolving minor civil and criminal disputes quickly, easily, and at a low cost. Increasing public awareness about these courts will significantly reduce the backlog in higher courts and make justice more accessible to rural communities.
Participants urged a coordinated effort among government bodies, private organizations, public representatives, and the media to promote the central message: "Let's go to the village court for quick and affordable justice." The session concluded with a list of actionable recommendations to expand the reach and effectiveness of village courts across the upazila.
