Nazmul Huda Mintu, the prime accused in the Hasan murder case and a former student leader, was sent to jail by a Khulna court on Wednesday.
Police produced Mintu before the Paikgachha Senior Judicial Magistrate Court under tight security at around 4:00 PM, where the magistrate ordered his detention.
Paikgachha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Kibria confirmed that the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6) arrested Mintu on Tuesday afternoon and handed him over to the police. Following initial legal formalities, police presented him before the court.
The case stems from the death of 35-year-old Hasan, son of Malek Sardar, who was beaten to death on Sunday evening in the Pashur Hat area of Chandkhali Union. According to the victim's family, an altercation over a trivial matter escalated, leading a group of men led by Mintu to assault Hasan, causing fatal injuries.
Following the incident, the victim's father filed a murder case naming 10 individuals, including Mintu, alongside 10 unidentified accused.
Security was heightened around the court premises on Wednesday as supporters of both sides gathered. Relatives of the deceased demanded a fair trial and exemplary punishment, while Mintu’s supporters gathered to protest his innocence.
Police stated that the investigation is actively ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
