The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms across different parts of the country over the next five days as the southwest monsoon continues to advance into Bangladesh. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected in some areas.
The forecast, issued on Wednesday (June 10), covers the next 120 hours from 9:00 am.
According to the BMD, the monsoon has already spread across Barisal, Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions. It is expected to reach the remaining parts of the country within the next two to three days, leading to a gradual increase in rainfall nationwide.
The weather office said rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely in many places across Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at several locations in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barisal divisions. Some areas may experience moderate to heavy rainfall.
Day temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged, although slight variations may occur in some places. Temperatures in southern regions could decrease slightly due to increased rainfall.
In the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall was recorded in Khepupara, Patuakhali, at 106 millimetres. Other notable rainfall totals included 67 millimetres in Chandpur, 58 millimetres in Sylhet and 54 millimetres in Rajarhat, Kurigram.
The highest temperature recorded during the period was 37.2 degrees Celsius in Jashore. The lowest temperature was 23 degrees Celsius, recorded in Faridpur, Narayanganj, Badalgachhi in Naogaon and Ramgati in Noakhali.
The Meteorological Department said rainfall activity could increase further after the next five days as the monsoon strengthens across the country.
