Bangladesh has become a highly respected and trusted name in global peacekeeping, Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a program at Senakunj to mark the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, the Army Chief noted that Bangladesh has been actively contributing to UN peace efforts since 1988, a commitment that will continue firmly into the future.
Currently, 4,212 Bangladeshi peacekeepers are deployed across nine global missions. This includes 3,608 personnel from the Army, 302 from the Navy, 267 from the Air Force, and 35 from the Police.
General Waker-uz-Zaman also highlighted the vital role of women in these efforts. To date, 3,905 female peacekeepers from the Bangladesh Armed Forces and Police have successfully completed their duties, with 294 women currently deployed worldwide.
"The challenges of global peacekeeping missions are changing rapidly," the Army Chief said. "Our peacekeepers remain fully prepared to face these challenges by risking their lives, demonstrating advanced training, high ethical values, and strict impartiality."
