Former UP Member Among Two Arrested with Yaba in Laxmipur

The District Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested two suspected drug dealers, including a former Union Parishad (UP) member, during two separate anti-narcotics drives in Laxmipur on Monday. Authorities seized a total of 450 Yaba pills and BDT 94,000 in cash during the operations.

Acting on a tip-off, a DB team raided a residence in Ward 11 of Laxmipur Municipality at approximately 12:40 pm. Police arrested Abul Kalam Azad (45), a former member of Parbatinagar Union Parishad, recovering 250 Yaba pills and BDT 94,000 believed to be proceeds from drug sales. The owner of the residence, Abul Bashar managed to flee the scene before authorities arrived.

Later that afternoon, around 4:45 pm, another DB unit conducted a raid in the Madhyam Makardhwaj area of Sadar Upazila. During this drive DB officers arrested 36-year-old Md. Delwar Hossain and confiscated 200 Yaba pills from his possession.

DB officials confirmed that legal proceedings are currently underway to file separate cases against the detainees under the Narcotics Control Act. Authorities are also actively pursuing the fugitive suspect, Abul Bashar.
