Investigation Launched into Suspected Water Poisoning at Chattogram Police Camp

Police have launched an investigation after three personnel at the Alinagar Police Outpost in Chattogram’s Jungle Salimpur fell ill from suspected water contamination.

The officers ingested water exhibiting unusual white foam and a strong chemical odor according to Sitakunda Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Mohinul Islam. All three affected personnel are currently stable and out of danger.

Chattogram Superintendent of Police Md Masud Alam confirmed the discovery of an empty container in the area suspected of holding toxic chemicals. Investigators suspect the camp's water supply, which is piped from a nearby house, was deliberately tampered with. Authorities have emptied and cleaned the water tank and sent samples for laboratory testing to determine if pesticides or other poisons were used.

The temporary joint forces camp—comprising Police Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)—was established to secure Salimpur, an area previously notorious as a hideout for militant and criminal groups.

Law enforcement initially secured the region during a major joint operation on March 9. The outpost has faced previous violent threats, including an explosive attack on May 25 linked to fugitive criminal leader Yasin and his associates.
