The 11-party alliance will hold a divisional rally at Chittagong’s historic Laldighi Maidan on Saturday, June 13, amid growing political activity and preparations across the city and surrounding districts.
Leaders and activists of the alliance’s partner parties have been carrying out campaign activities, meetings and organizational preparations ahead of the event.
According to organizers, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Opposition Leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman MP will attend the rally as chief guest.
They say the gathering is not only a political event but also a platform to raise public concerns over the country’s political, economic and social challenges.
Among those scheduled to address the rally are Opposition Chief Whip and National Citizens Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam MP, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Dr. Col. Oli Ahmed Bir Bikram, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Allama Mamunul Haque, Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Sakhawat Hossain, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan Ameer Maulana Habibullah Miyazi, JAGPA Vice President Engineer Rashed Pradhan, Bangladesh Labor Party Chairman Dr. Mustafizur Rahman Iran, Bangladesh Nezame Islam Party Secretary General Maulana Musa Bin Izhar, Bangladesh Development Party Chairman Advocate AKM Anwarul Islam and AB Party General Secretary Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad.
The rally will be chaired by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Assistant Secretary General and Chittagong Regional Director Muhammad Shahjahan.
On Tuesday, Shahjahan visited Laldighi Maidan to inspect preparations. He said the rally is being organized to demand fair rights for citizens, implementation of the people’s mandate, measures to control rising prices, an end to corruption and misrule, and relief from public suffering.
He also said the current economic situation has increased hardship for lower- and middle-income people and that the rally would help amplify public demands for accountability and good governance.
Alliance leaders said extensive preparations have been completed across Chittagong Division. Leaders and activists from Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Bandarban, Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Cumilla, Chandpur and Brahmanbaria are expected to attend.
Political observers note that the event could become one of the largest opposition gatherings in Chittagong since the national election. Discussions on the alliance’s parliamentary role, criticism of government policies and future political strategies are expected to draw significant attention.
Earlier on Tuesday, several alliance leaders, including Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Committee member and Chittagong Metropolitan Ameer Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Metropolitan Secretary Principal Muhammad Nurul Amin, NCP Chittagong Metropolitan Convener Mir Muhammad Shoaib, LDP Chittagong Metropolitan President Syed Gias Uddin Alam, AB Party Metropolitan Convener Advocate Golam Faruk and Labor Party Metropolitan President Alauddin Mia, visited the venue along with leaders of other partner organizations.
