The government plans to build an international-standard modern information complex in the tourist city of Cox’s Bazar, with Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farzana inspecting three potential sites for the project.
On Friday afternoon, October 9, she visited two proposed sites in the Kalatali Adarshagram area of Cox’s Bazar town and another in Khurushkul to assess locations for land acquisition and construction of the complex.
During the visits, the information secretary provided necessary instructions to the officials concerned. Senior officials from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting accompanied her.
According to relevant sources, the project aims to establish a modern information centre in every district to strengthen the service delivery capacity of district information offices. It is also expected to expand access to information and communication technology (ICT) facilities at the local level.
The initiative is intended to raise public awareness through the screening of quality films and promote a healthy cultural environment.
The proposed complex will feature several modern facilities, including a digital multipurpose cinema hall, high-speed internet access, a cybercafe, a digital archive and a modern ICT laboratory.
Officials concerned believe the facility could open new opportunities for information exchange, cultural activities and technological development in Cox’s Bazar.
