Police recovered 124,000 Yaba pills, worth an estimated Tk 3.5 crore, hidden inside the gas cylinder of an abandoned private car in Sitakunda, Chittagong, on Tuesday night. The suspects managed to flee the scene, and no arrests have yet been made.

Acting on a tip-off about a major drug shipment traveling from Cox's Bazar to Dhaka, police intensified surveillance on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway on Tuesday (June 9). Officers signaled a suspicious Dhaka-bound private car to stop, but the driver ignored the signal and sped away, prompting a police chase.

The suspects eventually abandoned the vehicle near the Boro Darogarhat weight scale and escaped. Police seized the car and brought it to the Sitakunda Police Station.

During a vehicle search, officers noticed a suspicious gas cylinder. On Tuesday night, they cut it open in the presence of Chittagong District Police Additional Superintendent (DB) Russell, revealing the Yaba pills stored in airtight packaging.

Sitakunda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohinul Islam confirmed the seizure, stating that a police operation is actively underway to identify and arrest the smugglers. Legal action regarding the incident is currently in progress.
