Police and Fire Service personnel recovered the bodies of a young tractor driver and an unidentified teenage girl in two separate incidents in Faridpur's Charbhadrasan and Sadarpur upazilas on Friday.
In Charbhadrasan, 20-year-old Joy Biswas drowned after his tractor plunged into the Padma River in the Balurghat area on Thursday night. Joy, originally from Jhenaidah’s Shailkupa upazila, was cultivating Aman paddy fields on the riverbank when the vehicle lost control, trapping him underneath.
Locals spotted floating tractor parts on Friday morning and alerted authorities. Fire Service personnel launched a rescue operation and recovered Joy's body around 11:00 AM.
"We suspect the accident occurred either because the driver fell asleep or the riverbank collapsed," said Charbhadrasan Fire Service Station Officer Md. Ohidul Islam. Sub-Inspector Mozammel Haque Biswas confirmed that an inquest was completed and the body will be handed over to the family following legal procedures.
In a separate incident in Sadarpur, police recovered the body of an unidentified girl, believed to be around 14 years old, from the Bhubaneswar River in Charkrishnapur. Locals spotted the body floating at approximately 11:00 AM and notified local UP member Abdul Jalil Mia, who contacted the police.
Sub-Inspector Md. Asaduzzaman Ripon stated that after an initial inquest at the scene, the body was sent to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Police are actively working to identify the victim.
Authorities confirmed that legal proceedings are underway for both incidents.
