Following nationwide media coverage of an elderly couple operating a traditional oil press (‘ghani’) without cattle for over 30 years, BNP Acting Chairman and chief patron of Amra BNP Poribar, Tarique Rahman, took notice of their plight. Acting on his instructions, Amra BNP Poribar convener Atikur Rahman Rumon coordinated with Mostakin Ali (Teli).
On Thursday, October 9, 2025, a delegation from Amra BNP Poribar met Mostakin Ali at his home in Uttar Durakuti (Paglatari), Bagagili Union, Kishoreganj Upazila. Senior BNP Joint Secretary and chief advisor of Amra BNP Poribar, Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, attended as the chief guest and inspected Mostakin Ali’s 30-year-old oil press. On behalf of Tarique Rahman, Rizvi expressed solidarity and inquired about the couple’s well-being.
In a formal gesture, the couple received cash to purchase cattle for the oil press and the keys to two battery-powered auto-vans to support their family’s self-reliance.
The program was attended by several Amra BNP Poribar leaders, including Secretary Moksedul Momin Mithun, Advisors Engineer Ashraf Uddin Bakul, Abul Kashem, Engineer Mostafa-e-Zaman Selim, National Press Club managing committee member Zahidul Islam Rony, and member Masud Rana Liton. Other BNP figures present included renowned singer and BNP advisor Baby Naznin, Rangpur divisional co-organizational secretary Abdul Khalek, central executive member Bilkis Islam, Syedpur district BNP leaders, and numerous local party activists.
Additionally, the delegation provided financial aid to the families of Sajjad Hossain and Naeem Babu, who were killed during the 2024 student-led public uprising in Syedpur.
