There have been allegations of selling old tins in the name of renovation of two sheds of the traditional Goalimandra Hat in Louhjang Upazila, Munshiganj. A contractor named Shafiullah received permission to renovate two sheds of the traditional Goalimandra Hat in Haldia Union of Louhjang Upazila. When the work started, the contractor's people were accused of stealing and selling old tins. The incident has angered the shopkeepers of the local market and the people around.
On Friday (weekly closing day), Nasimon took the opportunity to remove the old set of tins in a car. An easybike driver saw the matter and informed a local media person about it. When he went to the spot, he saw that an attempt was being made to hastily remove the tin during the Friday prayers. At that time, when the people of the market tried to talk to the contractor, the contractor Shafiullah himself behaved loudly and inappropriately. Then, when the situation became a bit heated, the local shopkeepers came forward.
Local Dr. Sumon said that the contractor's people had sold old tin to a scrap dealer a while ago. It was alleged that the opened tin was government goods in the name of renovation, how could it be sold without permission? Molla Monir, a wholesale rice seller at Goalimandra Market, said, "They took thirty thousand taka from me in the name of selling old tin, they did not give me the tin even though they said they would sell it to me, but when I asked them to return the money, they are threatening me in various ways, including filing a lawsuit."
In this regard, the contractor claimed that he was working through a subcontractor and if anyone stole it, the money would be deducted from the labor wage. However, the locals asked how government goods are sold in the name of the contractor? The contractor was directly told that the people involved in the stolen tin should be produced immediately and legal action should be taken. Otherwise, the contractor will have to take full responsibility for the disappearance of the old tin.
It is worth noting that the video evidence of the sale of tin in the scrap shop has already been received by the contractor. Local shopkeepers and wholesalers of the market demand that the full account of the stolen tin should be disclosed, and the traders are seeking immediate action against the culprits and the intervention of the administration to protect government assets. Md. Kawsar Sheikh, the leaseholder of Goalimandra Market, said, after learning about this matter, I rushed to the market and after learning everything about the incident from the shopkeepers of the market, I informed the Executive Officer of Louhajang Upazila.
