Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Md. Israel Howlader has announced a major shift in the city’s policing strategy, declaring that the era of middlemen and "brokers" within the force is over.
Speaking at a public road meeting in front of the Chandana Chowrasta Mosque Market on Tuesday (January 6, 2026), the Commissioner emphasized a new proactive approach where the police will reach out to citizens directly, rather than waiting for them to visit a station.
Direct Communication via Public Stickers To bypass intermediaries, the GMP has launched an initiative to place stickers containing emergency contact numbers at various strategic locations throughout the metropolis. Commissioner Howlader urged residents to use these numbers to report crimes instantly, promising that officers would respond directly to the scene without the need for a "source" or broker.
Targeting Diverse Crimes The Commissioner called for public cooperation across party lines to suppress a wide range of criminal activities, including: Violent Crime: Murder, armed robbery, and kidnapping. Street Crime: Mobile theft, motorcycle theft, and banditry. Social Issues: Teenage gangs, extortion, and "eve teasing." Public Safety: Adulteration of food and medicine, road accidents, and drug smuggling.
"Just as citizens come to us for services, now we will go to the citizens," Commissioner Howlader stated, reaffirming that the primary goal is to control and suppress crime through continuous awareness meetings and direct accessibility.
Official Emergency Contact Directory The GMP released a list of direct contact numbers for senior officials and various police stations to ensure public transparency:
