Shantiganj Press Club mourns death of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia

The leaders of the Shantiganj Press Club of Sunamganj district have expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of Begum Khaleda Zia, the three-time former successful Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairperson.

On Tuesday (December 30), the organization expressed its condolences in a letter signed by Shantiganj Press Club President Kazi Mohammad Jamirul Islam Momtaz and General Secretary Sohel Talukder.

In their condolence message, the leaders of the Shantiganj Press Club prayed for the eternal peace of her departed soul and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family members. In the statement, the leaders said that Begum Khaleda Zia was an influential and important figure in the democratic politics of Bangladesh. She took office as the country's first female Prime Minister after the restoration of parliamentary democracy in 1991 and was elected Prime Minister for two more terms in 1996 and 2001.

Especially in restoring democracy, establishing peace, and socio-economic development, her indomitable courage, unforgettable patience, unparalleled sacrifice, and the steps she took for women's education and women's development will be remembered. Her death has cast a shadow of grief over all quarters of the country, including the political arena. It is worth noting that Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at 6 am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. She had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for about a month due to kidney, heart disease, and a new bout of pneumonia. She was 80 years old at the time of her death.
