The Shantiganj Press Club has unofficially launched operations in its newly constructed building after ending a long wait for local mainstream media workers.
The building's activities commenced on Friday afternoon following a prayers and milad mahfil led by Press Club Advisor Kazi Jamirul Islam Momtaz and Senior Vice President Maulana M. Ilias Ali.
Established on February 20, 2009 the Press Club received a land donation in 2011 from local residents Gopendra Kumar Das and Atul Krishna Das. In 2019 the Ministry of Information approved a 3 million taka project to construct a one-story facility with a three-story foundation. Although construction began in 2020 the project stalled in 2022 at 75% completion due to rising material costs.
Following the election of a new executive committee on June 17, 2026 the club mobilized private donations to clean, renovate and partially complete the facility allowing journalists to finally move in.
Press Club President Sohel Talukder and General Secretary Hossain Ahmed stated that a formal inauguration will be organized once the remaining construction is finished using upcoming government allocations. They pledged to transform the facility into a modern hub to accelerate local journalism.
