Authorities reported that the arrests were made following the stabbing and shooting incident that occurred in Ward No. 4 of Chandraganj Union.
Mohammad Faizul Azim Noman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandraganj Police Station, confirmed the arrests on the evening of Sunday, November 16. He stated that the suspects were taken into custody during an operation conducted in the early hours of Sunday.
The individuals arrested include Emon Hossain (21), the son of Shah Alam from Latifpur village, Alamgir Hossain (40), the son of Momin Ullah, and Hussain Kabir Selim (50), the son of Nurul Amin.
As of Sunday evening, no formal charges have been filed regarding the incident. Following the autopsy, Zahir was laid to rest in his family graveyard that afternoon. The community is experiencing heightened anxiety in the wake of this event.
It is important to note that BNP leader Abul Kalam was fatally attacked around 8:30 pm on Saturday near Mustafa's Shop in Latifpur village, where he was both hacked and shot by assailants. He was the son of Mansur Ahmed from West Latifpur village.
Reports suggest that Zahir had been involved in a conflict with local Chhatra Dal member Kausar Manik Badal, also known as Chhota Kausar, regarding territorial control and internal disputes. This conflict intensified recently over the organization of a local game. It is believed that the murder stemmed from this ongoing dispute. Kausar is currently a fugitive with multiple charges against him, including murder. Conversely, Abul Kalam has seven cases and several General Diaries (GDs) filed against him, including six related to drug offenses.
