A woman named Sharmin Akhter Joni held a press conference at the Sariakandi Model Press Club in Bogra to seek protection for her family and justice against her paternal uncle and his accomplices.

She presented a written complaint detailing a violent land dispute and assault. The core of her complaint is: On November 8, her uncles and others, including Shamsul Molla, verbally abused her parents, Joynal Abedin and Rahima Begum. When Joni protested, the assailants ambushed them.

During the attack, Shamsul Molla allegedly struck Joynal Abedin on the head with an axe, causing a severe, continuously bleeding injury that required six stitches at the 250-bed Mohammad Ali Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Her mother and other relatives were also assaulted with rods.

Joni stated this attack followed a previous incident in October where a large group led by Shamsul Molla's daughter-in-law, Nahid, threatened to seize the family's land and home. They felled 15 trees on the property and issued a 7-day deadline for the family to vacate, which culminated in the November 8th assault when the family refused to comply.

In front of reporters, Sharmin Akhter Joni urgently called on law enforcement agencies to ensure her family’s safety and declared that Shamsul Molla and his associates would be held accountable for any future harm.
