Bangladesh has launched the ADM-LAB: Living Labs for Adaptive Delta Management in Bangladesh project, a major initiative aimed at combating climate change challenges and rising sea levels in the delta region.
The official launch of four associated research projects, involving key partners including Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU), was held on Tuesday, November 11, in Dhaka.
The project is a collaborative effort between PSTU, Wageningen University and Research (WUR) of the Netherlands, and Khulna University, led by PSTU Registrar and researcher Professor Dr. Md. Iktiar Uddin. The Vice-Chancellor of PSTU, Professor Dr. Kazi Rafiqul Islam, highlighted the urgency of the project, stating that climate change puts the very existence of Bangladesh’s delta-based ecosystem at risk.
He stressed that ADM-LAB is a timely initiative that will establish a "Living Lab" by directly involving local communities, including farmers, fishers, and policymakers, to implement real change at the grassroots level. He added that the project will be vital in achieving the goals of the national Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100.
Chief Guest Dr. Monzur Hossain and special guest H.E. Mr. Joris van Bommel, Ambassador of the Netherlands, expressed optimism that ADM-LAB will be a milestone for sustainable delta development, combining Dutch technological expertise with local Bangladeshi capacity.
