The Premier League title race and the battle for survival both intensified this weekend as Manchester City prepare to face Everton, while Tottenham climbed out of the relegation zone with a crucial victory over Aston Villa.
Man City Target Seventh Straight Win
Manchester City (70 points) travel to Everton on Monday night aiming to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal. Currently six points behind with two games in hand, City control their own destiny. If Pep Guardiola’s men win their remaining fixtures, they will likely retain their crown.
"It’s the calendar," Guardiola said regarding the games in hand. "Sometimes you play first, sometimes behind. Nothing changes; you know exactly what you have to do."
City enter the clash on a six-match winning streak across all competitions. Top scorer Erling Haaland leads the league with 24 goals, while City's deep squad recently secured an FA Cup final berth.
Everton Eye European Spot
Everton, currently 11th, remain just four points shy of a potential European qualification spot. Playing their first season at the new Hill Dickson Stadium, manager David Moyes is focused on finishing strong despite recent losses to Liverpool and West Ham. The Toffees expect striker Beto to return Monday after clearing concussion protocols.
Tottenham Escape Bottom Three
In Sunday’s standout result, Tottenham moved one point clear of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win at Aston Villa. Taking advantage of an under-strength Villa side—rotated by Unai Emery ahead of their Europa League semifinal—Spurs dominated from the start.
Conor Gallagher opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a low drive, his first league goal in two years. Richarlison doubled the lead with a powerful header in the 25th minute, sparking wild celebrations from manager Roberto De Zerbi. Although Emiliano Buendia grabbed a late goal for Villa, Tottenham held on for their second consecutive win.
With games against Leeds, Chelsea, and Everton remaining, Tottenham now have their survival in their own hands.
