Tanzid's Maiden Century Steers Bangladesh to Commanding Lead in Darwin Test

Tanzid Hasan’s maiden Test century steered Bangladesh to a commanding 153-run lead against Australia on day two of the Darwin Test. Replying to Australia’s 198, the Tigers reached stumps at 351 for 6 cementing their dominance.

Playing only his second Test, Tanzid showed remarkable patience, shedding his usual aggressive white-ball style to score 101 off 197 balls. His innings was built on crucial partnerships of a 102-run stand with Mominul Haque (49) and a 93-run alliance with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (84). During his knock, Mominul also became Bangladesh’s second-highest run-scorer in Test history.

Australia fought back briefly with the second new ball. Their pace trio claimed three quick wickets Shanto, Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim in just 4.5 overs. Steven Smith took all three catches at second slip with equaling Joe Root’s record for the most catches by a non-wicketkeeper in Tests.

Despite the late stumble, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (32*) and Hasan Mahmud stabilized the innings. They defended resolutely for over an hour also adding an unbroken 43-run partnership for the seventh wicket to frustrate the hosts and safely navigate to stumps.

With a solid platform established, Bangladesh heads into day three in a strong position and leaving Australia with a steep uphill battle.
