Journalists must work independently: Home Affairs Advisor

Journalists must work independently to publish true information. Because the public can know the correct information only through the media. Your mouth is completely open. You are here to publish the truth.

Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said these things at a meeting with administrative officers and law enforcement officers of Chittagong Division.

The meeting was organized at 12 noon on Sunday (February 1) at the World Trade Center in Chittagong City.

He also said at the meeting that in the past, the media and social media were controlled. Now journalists are able to ask questions much more freely than before. He also commented that it is not only the government's responsibility to stop the spread of false information on social media, including Facebook, but also journalists' responsibility.

Regarding the election, the Home Affairs Advisor said that the preparations of the administration and law enforcement agencies for the election are satisfactory. If their work progresses according to their preparations, the elections will be fair, peaceful and festive.

In response to a question about election-time violence, he said that a large part of the violence that is currently being seen is caused by conflicts within the same party or organization. In this regard, he called on political parties and all concerned to be more aware.

At this time, he also said that the internet will be kept open during the election period. If it is closed, those concerned will be brought under the law.

Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin, Deputy Commissioner Zahidul Islam Miah, Chattogram Range DIG Md. Ahsan Habib Palash and senior officials of the division were present in the meeting.
