A writ petition was filed in the High Court on Sunday seeking Tk 2 crore in compensation for each family of the 352 children who recently died of measles across Bangladesh.

Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Humayun Kabir Pallab filed the petition in the public interest. The Secretary of the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities have been named as respondents in the case.

The legal action follows alarming data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Reports indicate that over the last two months, more than 350 individuals—primarily children—succumbed to measles and related complications. During this surge, over 47,000 infections were recorded nationwide, though health officials noted that approximately 29,000 patients have since recovered.

The writ argues for state accountability regarding the outbreak and seeks financial redress for the grieving families.
