Government Considers Extended Holidays to Tackle Energy Crisis

The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has disrupted global fuel supplies, leading to a shortage that is now impacting Bangladesh. To manage the pressure on the national energy sector and reduce costs, the government is weighing several strategic measures.

A key proposal under consideration is increasing the weekly holidays for government employees. Alongside this, authorities are evaluating "work-from-home" arrangements and adjusted office schedules to lower electricity consumption in public buildings.

While no formal decision has been reached, sources indicate that all government agencies have been directed to submit individual energy conservation proposals. these plans will be reviewed at the next Cabinet meeting, where a final directive is expected.

Education Partially shifting to online classes for schools and colleges.

Office Attendance Strict enforcement of the 9:00 AM to 9:40 AM mandatory attendance rule to ensure operational efficiency.

Resource Management The Ministry of Public Administration has issued 11 specific instructions to field-level offices (DCs and UNOs) regarding electricity savings and office hygiene.

Official correspondence sent on Sunday reminded staff that responsible energy behavior is "very important," noting that recent deviations from these conservation guidelines will no longer be overlooked.
