A Dhaka court has set November 27 for the delivery of verdicts in three separate corruption cases concerning alleged irregularities in the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) plot allocations.
ACC Prosecutor Khan Md Mainul Hasan confirmed that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is seeking the highest punishment, which is life imprisonment, for the accused in these cases.
Advocate Md Shahinur Islam, representing the only arrested accused, Rajuk member Md Khurshid Alam, argued that his client is innocent.
The majority of the accused are currently absconding and did not have the opportunity to present arguments.
The court framed charges and ordered the trial to begin on July 31. Arrest warrants were issued for the accused who were absent during this hearing.
Recording of testimonies in the three cases was completed on November 17, with a total of 91 witnesses having testified.
The ACC filed six separate cases in January this year, accusing the individuals of abuse of power and irregularities in the allocation of government plots under the Purbachal New Town Project.
Other prominent individuals named include former housing and public works secretary Shahid Ullah Khandaker, former Rajuk chairman Anisur Rahman Miah, and former state minister Sharif Ahmed.
