Dhaka University (DU) Deputy Registrar Muhammad Lovelu Mollah was handed over to Shahbagh Police Station around midnight by the university's proctorial team and several students following a controversial social media post.
Mollah posted a photo card on his Facebook profile featuring former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina alongside the text "I Don't Care." This post was made in reaction to the recent death sentence verdicts delivered against Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan for crimes against humanity. He added the contradictory caption "Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu" to the post. Mollah was subsequently brought to Shahbagh Police Station by the DU students and the proctorial team.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Monsur confirmed the development, stating the proctorial team and students brought Mollah to the station due to his post "opposing the death sentence verdict of Sheikh Hasina." As of the report filing, no case had been formally filed against him, but the OC confirmed that "legal procedures are underway."
The OC further mentioned that Mollah "stood against general students" during the July–August (July uprising) and was allegedly "involved with a banned organization."
Fatima Tasnim Juma, Ducsu Liberation War and Democratic Movements Affairs Secretary, wrote on Facebook confirming the handover and issuing a warning: "We will take the same stand against teachers involved in genocide. Anyone showing sympathy for them will also be held accountable."
