President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has promised a "justified response" after a Russian missile strike on a Kyiv apartment block killed 24 people, including three children. The attack occurred shortly after the expiration of a three-day, U.S.-brokered ceasefire.
Visiting the site in the Darnytskyi district on Friday, Zelenskiy laid flowers at the rubble and met with rescue teams. Search operations have now concluded after 28 hours of sifting through debris.
"Ukraine will not allow the lives of our people to go unpunished," Zelenskiy stated, following meetings with military officials to coordinate strikes on Russia’s oil and weapons industries.
U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking from Air Force One while returning from China, warned that the renewed bombardment could derail fragile diplomatic efforts. French Ambassador Gael Veyssiere echoed this sentiment, stating the attack proves Moscow is "definitely not interested" in peace talks.
The strike was part of a massive two-day assault involving over 1,500 drones and dozens of missiles. While Moscow claims it targets military infrastructure, the Kyiv building was hit by a recently manufactured Kh-101 cruise missile, according to Ukrainian analysis.
In a likely retaliatory move, a Ukrainian drone strike hit an oil refinery and residential areas in the Russian city of Ryazan on Friday, resulting in four deaths.
