An immediate message, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, said the sea waves could reach up to 10 feet in some areas of the Philippines during the tsunami. A tsunami also expected to hit the island nation of Indonesia and the Pacific.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Philippines Institute of Earthquakes and Ervolcanology and Research, said the tsunami could last for several hours.
Indonesia's Earthquake and Geology Survey has also issued a tsunami warning. According to the forecast, the waves in coastal region of Indonesia could exceed 3 feet during the tsunami.
The first earthquake of magnitude Seventh struck eastern Mindanao at 9 a.m. Friday local time. A short time later, second earthquake of magnitude seventh was hit.
The U.S. Geology Survey and Research Organisation (ESGS) said the epicenter of the quake was 20km from the city in Mana, Mindanao, and 58km deep in the surface. The epicenter is about 123km from Davao, the capital of Mindanao.
Half an hour after the earthquake struck Mindanway, several “afters shocks” occurred. Each aftershock was five-decades to 6th.
Governor Edwin Zubahib told reporters that there were no reports of casualties in the quake so far. “The two earthquakes were very powerful. People were obviously shocked. Several buildings were damaged by earthquake. So far no casualties have been reported.”
