Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to strengthen cooperation in energy, artificial intelligence (AI), trade and technology during bilateral talks on Wednesday. The two leaders signed at least 20 agreements following their meeting.
Earlier reports suggested that around 40 agreements could be signed during Putin’s visit. However, the Kremlin confirmed 20 agreements on Wednesday, saying the remaining deals may be announced later.
According to the South China Morning Post, the agreements cover trade, technology, energy, innovation, media and intellectual property protection. The two leaders are also expected to issue a joint declaration focused on building a multipolar global order and expanding China-Russia relations.
Speaking after the meeting, Xi said relations between Beijing and Moscow continue to grow and have reached a high level of strategic partnership. He said both countries treat each other with equality and mutual respect.
Xi also announced plans to deepen cooperation in AI and technological innovation. China remains a major supplier of rare earth minerals, which are essential for advanced technologies, including semiconductor production.
The issue has gained global attention amid ongoing competition in the technology sector between China and the United States. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently joined a US business delegation during President Donald Trump’s visit to China. However, no major technology agreements were officially announced during that visit.
Before ending his remarks, Xi called for international justice and opposed unilateral use of force. He said China and Russia should act as responsible global powers against actions that undermine historical progress and international stability.
Putin said Russia is ready to continue uninterrupted oil and gas supplies to China. He added that trade relations between the two countries would be protected from external pressure and negative influences.
