Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the need to consolidate political trust and enhance practical cooperation between China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) during his meeting with Kim Jong Un on Monday.
Marking his first visit to the North Korean capital in seven years, Xi proposed strengthening the strategic guidance for bilateral relations. He stated that the traditional friendship between the two socialist nations remains deeply rooted in shared goals and a strong political foundation.
During the summit, Xi outlined four key proposals to deepen ties: Boost High-Level Exchanges: Consolidate political trust through continued close, strategic communication between top leaders.
Enhance Practical Cooperation: Align development strategies to expand trade, agriculture, technology, and healthcare initiatives.
Strengthen People-to-People Bonds: Increase exchanges in education, culture, and tourism, capitalizing on the full reopening of borders and transport routes.
Promote Strategic Coordination: Work together to uphold regional peace, security, and global fairness.
Xi reaffirmed China's unwavering support for North Korea's socialist cause, noting that this commitment will not waver regardless of shifting global dynamics. Both nations are set to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the China-DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance later this year with grand commemorative events.
In response, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un warmly welcomed Xi, calling him the nation’s most respected guest. Kim emphasized that the time-tested bilateral relationship is unbreakable and stands on the right side of history. He expressed full support for China's global initiatives and the one-China principle, pledging to prioritize and expand cooperation across various sectors to advance both modernization and regional peace.
