In Southern Lebanon Israeli air strikes killed two people in southern Lebanon on Friday, with the Israeli military claiming the targets were members of Hezbollah involved in rebuilding the group's combat capabilities. The strikes occurred near Nabatieh, despite a November 2024 truce intended to halt hostilities.
In one drone attack, Abbas Hassan Karky, whom Israel identified as the "logistics commander of Hezbollah's Southern Front headquarters," was killed while driving on the road to Toul. A separate strike targeting a car in the same area killed one other person and wounded another.
The attacks follow an earlier wave of Israeli strikes on Thursday that killed four people, including an elderly woman, prompting renewed focus on the fragile ceasefire.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese government is moving to disarm Hezbollah south of the Litani River before the end of the year, a plan opposed by the group. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam reaffirmed this commitment during a meeting with US General Joseph Clearfield, demanding in return that Israel cease its attacks and withdraw from occupied Lebanese territories. Israel, however, maintains troops in five strategic border points in violation of the truce terms.
