


A fatal fire broke out at a nightclub in the village of Arpora, located in India's popular tourist state of Goa, resulting in the deaths of at least 23 people.
The blaze occurred around 12:04 am local time (1834 GMT Saturday). Police received information about the fire, and fire trucks and ambulances were immediately rushed to the scene. Videos shared on social media showed lines of ambulances assisting the injured.
The state's police chief confirmed that all 23 bodies have been recovered and the fire has been curtailed. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment.
Goa's Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, announced on X (as reported by Reuters) that the state government has ordered an inquiry into the deadly incident.
Goa, situated on India's western coast, is a major tourist hotspot, attracting about 5.5 million tourists (including 271,000 international visitors) in the first half of the year.
