


A 10-member expert team from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), led by Country Director Hoe Yun Jeong, visited Chattogram Port on Wednesday to review operations and ongoing development projects.
The delegation inspected activities at the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT), the partially implemented Laldia Container Terminal, and the Bay Terminal project. The team praised the port’s operational efficiency and overall progress.
Upon arrival, the ADB delegation paid a courtesy call on Chattogram Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman. Senior port officials, including Member (Engineering) Commodore Md. Mazharul Islam Jewel, Bay Terminal Project Director Commodore Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Director (Security) Lt. Col. Md. Zahirul Islam, and Secretary Mohammad Azizul Maula, were present.
The port chairman briefed the delegation on recent performance gains, noting improvements across key operational indicators under the interim government.
He described Chattogram Port as the backbone of Bangladesh’s economy and said the current administration is working to make the port more efficient, modern and competitive. He stressed that ADB support is crucial, particularly in developing multimodal connectivity and strengthening the logistics chain to position Bangladesh as a regional commercial hub.
The chairman also sought ADB’s direct cooperation in future projects, including the preparation of a timely master plan for port development and technical assistance in operational management.
Hoe Yun Jeong reaffirmed ADB’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh and Chattogram Port. He expressed interest in providing technical assistance and financing for port development.
Both sides agreed to expand cooperation and work closely on future initiatives.
Referring to the theme “Let’s Build the Future of Bangladesh’s Gateway Together,” the ADB country director said the bank remains eager to work with Bangladesh as a trusted development partner, now and in the years ahead.
