Man Arrested in Gazipur for Drugging and Attempting to Rape Teenager

Police in Gazipur have arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly attempting to rape a teenager after drugging her and her mother with laced yogurt.

The suspect Md. Rashidul Palawan was apprehended during a raid at a restaurant in the Konabari area on Thursday night. A second suspect identified as Abhi Kumar Das remains at large.

According to the case statement filed by the victim’s mother at Joydevpur Police Station, the accused were acquaintances of her eldest son. Exploiting this connection suspects visited the family's home in the Aragaria area around midnight on July 7. They reportedly offered the family yogurt that had been mixed with heavy sedatives.

After the mother and daughter consumed the yogurt and fell unconscious suspects allegedly entered their room in the early hours of the morning and attempted to assault the teenager. The girl’s screams woke other family members, forcing the attackers to flee the scene.

The mother and daughter were rescued in an unwell state and admitted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for primary treatment.

Sub-Inspector Michael Banik, the investigating officer from Joydevpur Police Station led the arrest operation with assistance from GMP Konabari Police Station. SI Banik confirmed that the police are treating the incident with high priority. Multiple drives are currently underway to apprehend the remaining suspect and bring him to justice.
