State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque announced that the government under the guidance of the Prime Minister launched initiatives to establish sports as a viable and respected profession in Bangladesh.
He made these remarks on Friday afternoon while attending as the chief guest at the final match of the Deputy Commissioner Gold Cup Football Tournament, held at the Shaheed Advocate Amin Uddin Stadium in Pabna.
Emphasizing the administration's long-term vision, the State Minister highlighted ambitions for international success. "Our goal extends beyond national borders. From regional tournaments to major global stages like the Olympics, we want Bangladesh to make its mark" he stated.
Haque noted that this is the first time the government is formally working to professionalize the athletic sector. He urged parents to support athletically gifted children in pursuing sports with the same enthusiasm traditionally reserved for careers in medicine, engineering or law. "The government is actively working to stimulate the sports sector so parents can sow that dream and establish their children as professional athletes" he added.
The event was presided over by Pabna Deputy Commissioner Aminul Islam. Special guests included Pabna-5 MP Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Pabna-2 MP Ed Selim Reza Habib, Pabna-4 MP Abu Taleb Mandal and the Additional Superintendent of Police, alongside various local political leaders and professionals.
In the tournament finale, Ishwardi Upazila claimed the championship title by defeating Sadar Upazila 3-1 in a competitive 95-minute match. Following the game distinguished guests distributed prizes to the winning team.
