To mitigate health risks following severe floods and landslides, a mobile medical camp provided free healthcare and essential supplies to affected residents in Jamchharimukh Para, Bandarban Sadar, on Thursday (July 16).
The emergency initiative, organized by the Upazila Health Complex and local NGO 'Green Hill' with funding from UNFPA Bangladesh, aimed to prevent post-flood disease outbreaks in vulnerable communities.
Bandarban Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Shahin Hossain Chowdhury inaugurated the day-long camp. Medical teams—led by Dr. Tahmina Karim Rupa alongside health assistants and midwives—treated approximately 150 patients, primarily children, adolescents, and pregnant women. Alongside free medical consultations and medicines, children and adolescents received their scheduled EPI vaccines.
The initiative also prioritized hygiene and maternal care through targeted relief distribution. Officials provided baby kits to 12 pregnant and lactating mothers, dignity kits to 100 flood-affected families, and Menstrual Health Management (MHM) kits to 100 adolescents.
Recent continuous heavy rains inundated low-lying areas of Sadar Union, damaging homes and elevating the risk of waterborne diseases. Representatives from Green Hill, UNFPA, and Jhpiego were present to oversee the successful execution of the emergency medical intervention.
