Dr. S.M. Ziauddin Haider, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health, visited the Sugandha River erosion zones in Jhalokati on Friday to assess the ongoing crisis and ongoing preventive measures.
Arriving at the city's Gurudham area around 11:30 am, Dr. Haider spoke directly with affected residents to understand their immediate struggles. Following an inspection of the vulnerable riverbanks, he directed relevant officials to expedite protective work.
"River erosion in Gurudham is a severe crisis," Dr. Haider stated. Acknowledging that initial preventive work is underway, he assured residents of a permanent solution to protect lives, homes, and property. "We will push for swift, effective action in coordination with the relevant ministries and authorities. The government remains deeply committed to public welfare."
Local residents urgently appealed for the rapid implementation of sustainable embankments to halt further destruction.
Officials accompanying Dr. Haider included AKM Niloy Pasha, Executive Engineer of the Jhalokati Water Development Board, and local Press Club President Akkas Sikder, alongside district administrators and political leaders.
