The Balur road near the Nabbiirashi bus stand in Bagerhat’s Morelganj Municipality has been a source of extreme public suffering for years. Even light rain creates knee-deep waterlogging, making foot traffic nearly impossible. Locals report that during the monsoon season, the road resembles a small canal, forcing residents to rely on vans just to cross.
Hundreds of students, business owners, and daily commuters use this route. Despite repeated appeals to local representatives and municipal authorities, the chronic waterlogging remained unresolved, fueling deep frustration among residents.
Stepping in to address the crisis, Asaduzzaman Milon, General Secretary of the BNP's Morelganj Municipal Branch, has launched a repair initiative. Using his personal funds, Milon is renovating the road to restore drainage and ease the community's burden.
The intervention has brought immediate relief to the neighborhood. “We have endured this for years,” one local resident shared. “Even with a little rain, water traps us. This repair will finally make movement easier for thousands of people.”
Addressing his decision to intervene, Asaduzzaman Milon said, “We cannot simply sit by and watch the public suffer. I took this initiative within my own means to provide relief. I will continue to support local development and public welfare in the future.”
Residents are hopeful that this personal initiative will finally pave the way for a permanent solution to the Nabbiirashi area's long-standing drainage crisis.
