


Rear Admiral Arif Ahmed Mustafa assumed charge as the new Chairman of the Mongla Port Authority today, June 7, 2026. He succeeds Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman, taking over responsibilities from Acting Chairman Commodore Md. Shafiqul Islam Sarkar.
Previously the Chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Mustafa held an introductory meeting with port officials, department heads, and union representatives upon taking office. After being briefed on ongoing and unfinished projects, he outlined a future roadmap for the port's development.
The new Chairman urged staff to work as a unified team, emphasizing that streamlining administrative procedures will significantly improve port operations. He also directed officials to focus on boosting revenue and reducing unnecessary expenses. Above all, he prioritized immediate discussions with port users and stakeholders to drive the port's overall commercial growth.
About the New Chairman Rear Admiral Mustafa joined the Bangladesh Navy in 1990 and was commissioned into its Executive Branch in 1992. He holds a science degree with distinction from Chittagong University and a master's in military studies from the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).
Over his distinguished 30-year career, he has served in various command, instructional, and staff roles. Notably, he commanded two major Bangladesh Navy frigates, BNS Omar Farooq and BNS Samudra Joy. He has also served as the captain of several patrol crafts and the BNS Haji Mohsin naval base.
