Woman’s Body Recovered in Chattogram

Police recovered the hanging body of a 55-year-old woman from a rented house in Karnaphuli Upazila, Chattogram, late Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Geeta De, wife of the late Nirmal Barman from the Gachbaria Kalghar area of Chandanaish Upazila. She had been living with her only son in a rented apartment at Shahjahan Mansion in Ward 7 of Shikalbaha Union for the past four years.

According to police and local sources, residents spotted the body hanging in her room on Monday night and alerted the authorities. Police arrived at the scene around 11:00 PM to recover the body.

The homeowner, Md. Shahjahan, confirmed that Geeta De had been a long-term tenant.

Karnaphuli Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahinur Alam stated, "On receiving information, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Legal proceedings regarding the incident are underway."

While initial findings suggest suicide, police are waiting for the autopsy report for confirmation.
