A farmer and his nephew were seriously injured after being attacked with sharp weapons in Mirzapur village of Pabna Sadar Upazila on Saturday afternoon. The victims, identified as Md. Alal Biswas (50) and his nephew Md. Ujjal Biswas (40), are currently receiving treatment at Pabna General Hospital.
The attack occurred around 12:00 PM as the duo was returning home from their litchi garden. A group of men, allegedly lying in wait on a dirt road, intercepted them with country-made weapons.
According to the police complaint, the attackers—identified as Enamul Mollah, Emran Mollah, Azizal Mollah, and Sakib Akand—along with several unidentified associates, hacked the victims on their heads with knives and machetes. Once the victims fell, they were reportedly beaten with iron rods and pipes. The assailants fled the scene when locals rushed to the spot after hearing screams.
The victim's family claims the assault was a premeditated act stemming from past enmity. Abdul Gafur Biswas, father of the injured Ujjal, has filed a formal complaint naming four individuals.
Pabna Sadar Police Station SI Md. Zakaria confirmed that an investigation is underway. "We have received the written complaint and have launched a drive to arrest the accused individuals," he stated.
