PSTU's Faculty of Environmental Science and Disaster Management has organised the Training.

A two-day specialized training program on geospatial and drone technology kicked off at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) to promote the use of modern technology in environmental and disaster management.

The program, titled “Advanced Training on Geospatial and UAV (Drone) Technologies for Environmental and Disaster Applications,” began on Saturday (April 25) morning. The event was organized by the Faculty of Environmental Science and Disaster Management (ESDM) with funding from the university's Research and Training Center (RTC).

Professor Dr. Md. Mohsin Hossain Khan, Dean of the ESDM Faculty and the project's principal investigator, led the inaugural session. In his opening remarks, he stressed the critical need for students to develop hands-on technological skills to improve environmental protection and disaster response efforts.

Premananda Debnath, an expert in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from the Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS), served as the lead trainer for the first day.

Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of drone technology, flight operations, and real-world applications. The students showed significant interest in the hands-on sessions, which covered using drone data in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), survey planning, and photogrammetric data processing.

The day-long sessions saw enthusiastic participation from undergraduate and postgraduate students, alongside numerous faculty members.

Key faculty contributors included Prof. Dr. Ahmed Parvez, Assoc. Prof. Md. Tarikul Islam, Assoc. Prof. Papri Hazra, and Asst. Prof. Arifur Rahman from the Department of Environmental Science. They were joined by educators from various allied departments, including Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahim, Prof. Raman Kumar Biswas, and Assoc. Prof. Md. Faisal (Disaster Resilience and Engineering); Assoc.
