


Three more children have died with measles symptoms in the past 24 hours, raising the combined death toll from confirmed measles and measles-like symptoms to 686 nationwide.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), released on Tuesday (June 23), the latest deaths occurred between 8:00 am Monday and 8:00 am Tuesday. Since March 15, a total of 93 people have died from confirmed measles, while 593 others have died with measles symptoms.
The DGHS also reported 1,135 new cases during the same period. Among them, 126 were laboratory-confirmed measles cases and 1,009 people showed symptoms consistent with the disease.
The three latest symptom-related deaths were reported from Dhaka, Moulvibazar and Mymensingh divisions.
Dhaka division has recorded the highest number of deaths with measles symptoms so far, at 251. Other divisions reported the following deaths: Rajshahi 88, Sylhet 75, Chattogram 50, Mymensingh 55, Barishal 39, Khulna 27 and Rangpur 8.
Since March 15, a total of 94,764 people have developed measles symptoms across the country. During the same period, 11,297 people have been confirmed to have measles.
The DGHS report further states that 78,716 patients have been admitted to hospitals with measles or related symptoms since March 15. Of them, 74,971 have recovered and been discharged.
