Four more children died with measles symptoms across Bangladesh in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday with bringing the total death toll from confirmed measles and suspected cases to 1,108 since March 15.
According to a press release from the control room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest deaths were reported across four divisions: one each in Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet and Mymensingh.
During the same 24-hour period 1,221 new suspected cases and 128 confirmed cases were reported nationwide. This brings the cumulative number of suspected cases to 191,731 and confirmed cases to 21,520 since March 15.
DGHS data shows that out of the 1,108 total deaths since March, 101 were confirmed measles cases while 1,007 were patients presenting measles-like symptoms. No new deaths from laboratory-confirmed measles were recorded in the last 24 hours.
Furthermore 169,800 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country since March 15 with 162,873 recovering and being discharged. Health authorities continue to monitor the situation as field offices work to manage cases and contain further transmission.
