A retired traffic police constable died on Monday morning after stabbing three people—including his son—and subsequently jumping from a three-story rooftop in the Banchanagar area of Lakshmipur municipality.
The deceased, Nasir Ahmed, son of Arshad Ali from Chandpur’s Faridganj, had retired from the police force in August last year. He lived with his family in a rented house at "Peshka Bari" for the past seven years.
According to locals and relatives, Nasir’s wife was away traveling with their eldest son at the time of the incident. Nasir had reportedly been feeling unwell the previous night, and his younger son, Imran Ahmed, a college student, had provided him with medication.
On Monday morning, Nasir unexpectedly attacked the sleeping Imran with a dagger. When a bleeding Imran ran outside, a neighbor, Mizanur Rahman Swapan, attempted to assist him. Nasir then attacked Swapan. A third individual, also named Nasir (a tenant at the house), was slashed while trying to intervene.
Following the attacks, the retired constable climbed to the roof of the three-story building and jumped.
Police and locals rescued the four injured men and rushed them to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. Nasir Ahmed succumbed to his injuries approximately three hours later while undergoing treatment.
Dr. Arup Pal, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) at Sadar Hospital, confirmed the death and stated that two victims—Imran and Swapan—were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital due to the severity of their injuries. The third victim is receiving treatment locally.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance), Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi, stated that preliminary findings suggest the retired constable was mentally unstable. A formal investigation is underway.
