The Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) held a training workshop on Thursday to refine data collection and analysis aimed at preventing road accidents. The session, titled ‘Improvement of Road Crash Data Collection, Correction, and Purification Process,’ took place at the CMP headquarters in Dampara.
Supported by Vital Strategies under the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS), the workshop was inaugurated by CMP Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Wahidul Haque Chowdhury.
During his opening remarks, Chowdhury emphasized that accurate accident data is the foundation of road safety. "Data-driven initiatives allow us to take precise actions to prevent crashes and restore order on our streets," he stated.
Kazi Saifun Newaz, BIGRS Surveillance Coordinator and Assistant Professor at BUET’s Accident Research Institute, led the technical sessions. He trained officers on standardized methods for filling out Accident Report Forms (ARF), verifying data accuracy, and filtering information for better analysis.
The training included practical exercises where participants practiced filling out ARF forms both manually and online, focusing on identifying and correcting common reporting errors.
The event saw participation from Nurul Islam Siddique, Assistant Police Commissioner of the CMP Road Safety Cell, along with inspectors, sergeants, and operators from all 16 city police stations. Kazi Helal Uddin, BIGRS Enforcement Coordinator, was also in attendance.
