Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul have temporarily paused their MLS routine with Inter Miami to shift their full focus toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The duo arrived in Kansas the official hub for Argentina's training camp joining the rest of the squad that had previously traveled from Buenos Aires.

This marks Messi’s historic sixth World Cup appearance, offering an opportunity to further cement his legacy and chase a fourth star for Argentina. As long as the captain is on the pitch the Albiceleste dream remains very much alive.

The Rosario native's arrival officially clears the air. For months, Messi had insisted he would evaluate his World Cup participation "day by day," a stance that sparked renewed concern following a recent muscle injury with Inter Miami.

The injury occurred on May 24 during a wild 6-4 victory over the Philadelphia Union. The captain subbed off visibly in pain and hours later, Inter Miami confirmed muscle overload brought on by a heavy workload. As a precaution he has been ruled out of Argentina's upcoming friendlies against Honduras and Iceland.

Argentina's coaching staff is taking zero chances. The medical plan calls for rest, individualized workouts, and a progressive return to training under the strict supervision of team specialists.

The ultimate priority is ensuring Messi is at 100% for Argentina's tournament opener against Algeria. With just over two weeks of recovery time left, the national team's inner circle remains highly optimistic about his progress.

As has been the case throughout his legendary career, Messi will dictate his own timeline. Nobody knows his body better than he does, and he knows exactly when to push and when to ease off the gas. The only thing not up for debate is his drive to play. The captain is officially in Kansas, and the final countdown to another World Cup has begun.
