A.S.M Tariqul Hasan Khan, Executive Engineer of the Satkhira District Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), spent Monday the first working day after Eid inspecting multiple infrastructure projects across Tala Upazila. He was accompanied by Upazila Engineer Rathindra Nath Halder and other local deputy assistant engineers.
During his visit the Executive Engineer reviewed ongoing repairs on the Jatpur Bazar to Subhashini road, a vital route that will significantly ease travel between Satkhira and Tala Upazila once completed. He also inspected the Dhulanda-Balrampur road and several sites under the Khulna-Bagerhat-Satkhira (KBS) Rural Infrastructure Development project, including roads in Khalishakhali, Magura, Dhandia and Sadar unions.
Acting on local allegations of corruption, Khan visited the Begundanga-Baragachha site in Khalishkhali Union. He confirmed that contractors had used substandard bricks and mortar during the Eid holidays to bypass oversight. He immediately ordered the removal of the poor-quality materials, warning that the contract would be canceled if specifications were not strictly followed. Khan also inspected the Magura Islamkati Bridge, instructing the contractor to submit a clear work plan for rapid completion.
Later, in a management meeting with contractors, Khan urged them to expedite their work, noting that the KBS project deadline is June 26. Engineer Alamgir Hossain, representing the contractor Yunus & Brothers, stated that carpeting is complete on three of their six assigned roads, promising to finish the remaining work by the second week of June.
Khan concluded his visit by directing local LGED staff to ensure strict quality control across all projects.
According to Upazila Engineer Rathindra Nath Halder, LGED has repaired and developed approximately 20 kilometers of roads in Tala Upazila during the 2025-2026 financial year. These improvements aim to boost local agriculture, create jobs, alleviate poverty, and drive long-term socio-economic growth in the region.
