The interrogation of Jamal Uddin, father of the slain lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, continued Wednesday in the Chittagong Speedy Trial Tribunal. Judge Md. Zahidul Haque presided over the proceedings regarding the murder case filed with Kotwali Police Station.
During the session, accused Chinmoy Krishna Das appeared virtually, while other defendants were present in person. Assistant Public Prosecutor Md. Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury confirmed that the interrogation of the plaintiff has been completed on behalf of 11 present accused and 14 fugitives. The court has scheduled the next hearing for April 29.
Notably, no lawyer represented Chinmoy Krishna Das during the hearing. When questioned by the court, Chinmoy requested more time, stating he needs to consult with his legal counsel regarding his next steps.
The case dates back to November 26, 2024, when Advocate Saiful Islam Alif was hacked to death during a clash in the Chittagong court area. The violence erupted following a bail hearing for Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson for the Sanatani Jagran Jote.
Jamal Uddin initially named 31 individuals in the murder case. Following an investigation, Assistant Police Commissioner Mahfuzur Rahman submitted a charge sheet on June 1, 2025. The court eventually accepted a charge sheet against 39 individuals. While three original suspects were dropped due to lack of evidence, several others—including Chinmoy Krishna Das—were added after investigators found evidence of their involvement.
