The body of a 10-year-old boy was recovered from the Chaktai Canal in Chattogram city on Tuesday night, several hours after he went missing while bathing with friends.

The deceased, identified as Md. Rakib, was the son of Main Uddin, a local rickshaw puller residing in the Bhera Market area. His mother works as a daily wage laborer at the nearby Fisherighat fish market.

According to Fire Service officials and family members, Rakib went to the canal with a group of friends on Tuesday afternoon while his parents were away at work. While the other children successfully returned to shore, Rakib disappeared underwater.

Local residents and family members conducted an initial search throughout the afternoon. Failing to find him, they alerted the authorities at approximately 7:45 pm.

Md. Jasim Uddin, Deputy Director of the Fire Service (Chattogram Division), stated: "We dispatched a diving team immediately after receiving the report. Following a search operation, the body was recovered near the Bhera Market sluice gate at approximately 9:30 pm."

The body was subsequently handed over to the family.
