A murder case has been filed four days after the killing of Chhatra Dal leader Imran Hossain Sohag in Ishwardi, Pabna. The victim's father, Enamul Pramanik, filed the case at Ishwardi Police Station on Monday morning.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Ishwardi Circle) Pranab Kumar Sarkar confirmed the filing, stating that seven named individuals and 8–10 unidentified persons have been accused.
According to the case statement, Sohag was with friends in the Sada Gopalpur Schoolpara area around 10:00 PM on April 2 when a group of masked assailants attacked them. Sohag was shot and hacked to death on the spot. The family alleges the killing was a planned attack stemming from previous enmity.
Imran Hossain Sohag was the member secretary of the proposed Ishwardi Upazila Chhatra Dal committee and the Ishwardi unit of Zia Cyber Force.
"An investigation is underway based on the family's complaint," said ASP Pranab Kumar Sarkar. "We are working to identify and apprehend the suspects as quickly as possible."
Local sources noted that Sohag was a supporter of former municipal BNP General Secretary Zakaria Pintu. This faction has been in a long-standing dispute with the group led by Pabna District BNP Convener Habibur Rahman Habib. Tensions between the two groups recently escalated, with a clash on March 23 leaving at least 30 people injured.
